Benefits of Hazelnut Oil on Health

Hazelnut oil, which affects reproductive system positively, is highly effective in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease prevention as well.

Most of us don’t prefer hazelnut oil in our meals. However, experts state that hazelnut oil has serious benefits on health. The most important effects of hazelnut oil is that it helps prevention of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

Drawing attention to the fact that hazelnut oil, which contains more vitamin E compared to other oil types, can help prevention of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, Assoc. Dr. Nurten Budak, who is an academic member of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetic at Health Sciences Faculty of Erciyes University, gave the following information about this topic:

It has anti-aging effects

“Many studies showed that oils containing vitamin E prevent Parkinson’s disease. Vitamin E, of which content is high in hazelnut oil, affects reproductive system positively and regulates blood values as well by preventing red blood cells from fractioning. Moreover, it is one of the most effective antioxidants and it shows anti-aging effects by protecting cells and help them regenerate. It also prevents Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.”

Fights against cardiovascular diseases

On the other hand, Asım Ören, who is an academic member of the Department of Biochemistry at Medicine School of Karadeniz Technical University and Head of Hazelnut-Tea Research and Application Center, expressed that hazelnut oil is like a medicine against cardiovascular diseases. Reminding that 85% of fatty acid content of hazelnut oil is covered by oleic acid, Prof. Dr. Örem said: “This ratio is higher than all other herbal oils, including olive oil. Oleic acid decreases the risk of hypertension, decreases bad cholesterol (LDL), increases good cholesterol (HDL), protects against cardiovascular diseases, decreases the insulin requirement of diabetic patients, regulate blood sugar level and protects against cancer by preventing tumor development.”

The most heat-resistant oil

Stating that the burning point of hazelnut oil is much higher than the other oils, Ören continued: “Hazelnut oil is the most heat resistant oil with its burning point at 220-240 degrees Celsius. Other oil types are not that much resistant to high temperatures and therefore, when such oil types are used to cook meals, their physical and chemical properties may change and their toxic properties may arise. It is already known that hazelnut oil don’t leave smell in the environment or in the meals and it gives much better results in any type of cooking as it is light and delicious.”
